Digital nomad transitory residence

The subcategory, created by Provision 758/2022 of the National Directorate of Migration, is designed for providing services remotely, through computer or telecommunications means, to people or companies abroad. Only nationals of countries that do not need a tourist visa can apply, and it does not allow working for employers in Argentina.

Requirements and how to apply

You need a valid passport, an Argentine criminal record certificate (over 16), an address, regular entry into the country, a signed application describing your activity and a short CV, and documents supporting your remote work such as contracts or proof of income. There is no published minimum income. Inside the country you apply at Migration; from abroad, through the TIE 24H electronic system or at a consulate.

Term and extension

The transitory residence is granted for up to 180 days and can be extended once for the same period inside Argentina. The consulate recommends starting at least 45 days before travelling. If you want to stay more than a year, you need to look at another migration category.

Taxes and tax residence

The Income Tax Law treats as resident foreigners with permanent residence or those who stayed twelve months in the country with temporary authorisations. With the digital nomad residence, of up to 180 days plus a 180-day extension, that period is generally not reached, but chaining other authorisations changes the picture.
