Who can apply

Article 46 of Resolution 5477 provides it for remote work from Colombia, by digital means, exclusively for foreign companies, as an employee or freelancer, or for a digital venture. It requires a passport from a country exempt from short-stay visas and a letter from the foreign company, in Spanish or English, describing the relationship and pay.

Income and health insurance

You must show bank statements with income of at least three legal monthly minimum wages over the last three months. The 2026 minimum wage is COP 1,750,905, set provisionally by Decree 0159 of 2026 while the Council of State rules on the previous decree: the threshold is COP 5,252,715 a month. Health insurance covering your whole stay in Colombia is also required.

Validity, family and limits

The digital nomad V visa is valid for up to two years and allows dependants of the holder. It does not authorise working or paid activity for people or companies domiciled in Colombia, and you apply online through the Foreign Ministry's visa platform.

Taxes and tax residence

DIAN treats as tax resident anyone who stays in Colombia, continuously or not, for more than 183 calendar days, including entry and exit days, in any 365-day period. If that stay spans two years, residence applies from the second year. Nationals have additional criteria based on family, income and assets.
